SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 10, 2017) –
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Lemekha led the Golden Bears to a 1-0-1 week, posting a 0.45 goals against average and a .929 save percentage over two matches. She made a career-high 12 saves on Tuesday as the Golden Bears played to a 1-1 draw at Western Connecticut, which entered the game ranked No. 23 in the D3soccer.com national poll with a perfect 11-0 record. Lemekha followed that up on Saturday by stopping the only shot she faced to earn her CCC-leading fifth shutout of the season in Western New England's 2-0 win over Nichols.

Through 13 matches this season, Lemekha ranks in the top-5 in the CCC in goals against average (1.11 – 3rd), save percentage (.803 – 4th) and total saves (61 – 5th).

A 2016 graduate of Stamford High School, Lemekha was a four-year soccer letterwinner for the Black Knights, earning All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) second team recognition as a sophomore and first team accolades as a junior and senior.

Western New England (5-6-2, 3-1 CCC) hosts Wentworth on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
