CCC Release

Stamford, Conn. native leads CCC with six shutouts this season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 16, 2017) –
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Lemekha continued her strong play last week as the Golden Bears went 2-1 with CCC victories over Wentworth and Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.

She made five saves in a 2-1, overtime loss to Westfield State on Monday, before stopping the only shot she faced to earn her CCC-leading sixth shutout of the season in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Leopards. Lemekha capped her week by making one save on Saturday as the Golden Bears improved to 5-1 in CCC play with their 2-1 triumph at Eastern Nazarene.

With three matches remaining in the regular season, Lemekha ranks third in the CCC in goals against average (1.03), fifth in save percentage (.797) and sixth in total saves (63).

Western New England (7-6-2, 5-1 CCC) wraps up its regular season home slate on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Roger Williams.
