Lemekha Named CCC Defensive Player of the Week

Stamford, Conn. native posted two shutouts last week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 18, 2017) – Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Lemekha posted a pair of shutouts last week as the Golden Bears earned 1-0 victories over both Mount Holyoke College and the University of New England. She made one save against the Lyons on Tuesday, before stopping all eight of the shots she faced in Saturday's triumph at UNE.

Through six matches this season, Lemekha ranks second in the CCC in both goals against average (0.64) and save percentage (.857). Her three clean sheets lead the conference.

Western New England (3-2-1, 1-0 CCC) travels to Elms on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., before returning home to host Salve Regina on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
