Serafino scores first career goal, Lemekha registers CCC-leading seventh shutout

MILTON, Mass. (October 20, 2017) –
The Western New England University women's soccer team used a first half goal from sophomore Kaeli Serafino (Ludlow, Mass.) and a six-save shutout from sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) to earn a 1-0 victory over Curry College on Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Walter M. Katz Field. 

Top Performers
• Serafino's first career goal early in the first half proved to be the difference in the contest.
• Lemekha made six saves, with three coming in each half, en route to her CCC-leading seventh shutout of the season.
• Freshman Morgan Smith (Manchester, Conn.) recorded a team-high three shots.

Match Review
• Western New England scored the only goal of the contest at the 17:20 mark of the first half. Senior Danielle Dixon (Plainville, Conn.) sent a cross in from the right side to the back post, and classmate Maddie Morgan (Upton, Mass.) played the ball back to the middle of the box. A Curry defender misplayed the ball, and Serafino was there to one-touch a shot past Colonels sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.).
• Lemekha made a spectacular save early in the second half on a free kick to preserve Western New England's 1-0 victory.

Notes
• Curry outshot Western New England 12-9 and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
• The Golden Bears have won four consecutive games for the first time since 2010, when they posted a five-game winning streak from September 21-October 5.
