SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 28, 2017) – The third-seeded Western New England University women's soccer team earned a convincing 2-0 victory over sixth-seeded University of New England in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Suprenant Field. 

With the win, Western New England (10-7-2) advances to the CCC semifinals, where the Golden Bears will take on second-seeded Roger Williams on Wednesday in Bristol, R.I. The Nor'easters' season comes to a close at 8-9-2.

Top Performers
• Senior midfielder Maddie Morgan (Upton, Mass.) and senior forward Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) both scored for the Golden Bears, while senior Danielle Dixon (Plainville, Conn.) was credited with an assist.
• Behind a stellar defensive effort, sophomore goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) registered her eighth shutout of the season without having to make a single save.

Match Review
• Western New England took a 1-0 lead just 1:49 into the contest when Dixon sent in a cross from the right side to Morgan, who buried a shot into the left corner of the net.
• In the 36th minute, Labrie stole the ball from a UNE defender and found the back of the net with a shot from the top of the box to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage.
• Western New England, which led by the same margin at the break, continued to dominate play in the second half, firing ten shots with four on target. The Golden Bears held the Nor'easters without a single shot over the final 45 minutes of action.

Notes
• Western New England held a commanding 18-1 shot advantage and took nine corner kicks to UNE's zero.
• Saturday's contest was Western New England's first home CCC Tournament match since 2010.
