East Longmeadow, Mass. native has 3.96 cumulative GPA as Communications-PR major

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 9, 2017) –
Senior defender Marielle Caron (East Longmeadow, Mass.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Thursday afternoon.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.

A communications-public relations major with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average, Caron is a two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Academic selection that was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society in 2016. Caron also recently completed a public relations internship with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League.

On the field, Caron served as a team captain for the Golden Bears during her senior campaign this fall. She helped anchor a defensive unit that ranked second in the CCC with a 0.98 goals against average. Caron started 19 of the 20 matches that she appeared in, earning All-CCC third team accolades.

The East Longmeadow, Mass. native is the only CCC student-athlete to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team.

Western New England (10-8-2, 7-2 CCC) earned the third seed in the CCC Tournament and hosted a first round game for the first time since 2010 before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Roger Williams.
