Golden Bears Fall to Springfield, 8-1

Junior Nick Raschilla posts 0-6, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 6 singles

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2016) – The Western New England University men's tennis team dropped its only match of the fall semester to crosstown rival Springfield College, 8-1, this afternoon in non-conference action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Top Performers
• Junior Nick Raschilla (East Longmeadow, Mass.) rallied to earn Western New England's lone point of the afternoon with an 0-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory over Zack Keene at No. 6 singles.
• Making his Western New England debut, freshman Mihir Nadig (Allen, Tex.) fell just short at No. 1 singles, dropping a 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 result to Tanner DeVarennes. 

Match Review
• The Pride claimed all three doubles matches, as Western New England's No. 1 and No. 3 tandems both fell by 8-5 scores.
• Also making their Western New England debuts were freshmen David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.). Kalmer was edged 6-4, 6-4 by Court Honda at No. 3 singles, while Surawski was defeated by Justin Danielewicz, 6-1, 6-0.
