Golden Bears Back on Track with 9-0 Triumph at Salve Regina

Western New England improves to 4-6 this season (1-3 CCC)

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 5, 2017) – The Western New England University men's tennis team got back on track following a tough stretch with a 9-0 victory at Salve Regina University on Wednesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Leroy Avenue Courts.

Top Performers
• Freshmen David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) and sophomores Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) and Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) all posted wins in both singles and doubles play for the Golden Bears.

Match Review
• Kalmer and Kohut teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over D.J. Bisaillon and Kevin Brocks as the Golden Bears opened up a 3-0 lead through doubles play.
• Kalmer was also a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles over Will Masse, while Kohut earned a 6-1, 6-0 result over Brocks at No. 2.
• In addition to Surawski and Tran, freshman Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) and junior Kevin Yawgel (Cromwell, Conn.) were victorious at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Western New England (4-6, 1-3 CCC) returns home to host Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, while Salve Regina (3-4, 0-2 CCC) travels to Quincy to take on Eastern Nazarene on Friday.
