Golden Bears Blanked by Gordon, 6-0
WENHAM, Mass. (April 19, 2017) – The Gordon College men's tennis team handed Western New England University a 6-0 setback on Wednesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at both the Brigham Athletic Complex and the Bass River Tennis Club.
Match Review
• Gordon swept through doubles play to open up a 3-0 lead. Western New England's No. 1 duo of freshman David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and sophomore Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) fell to Mason Casady and Nate Lookwhy, 8-0, while freshmen Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Daniel O'Neill (Branford, Conn.) fell 8-3 at No. 2 to Mike D'Antuono and Eric Kim. Sophomore Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) and Freshman Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) dropped an 8-2 decision to Jonathan Frink and Peter Godwin at No. 3.
• In singles play, Casady posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kalmer at No. 1, Frink defeated Kohut 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, and Godwin topped Arnold, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
• The No. 3, 4 and 6 singles matches were not completed.
Up Next
Western New England (6-8, 1-5 CCC) returns home to host MCLA on Friday, while Gordon (14-4, 5-1 CCC) travels to Endicott on Saturday.
