Western New England Rolls Past Norwich, 7-2, in Spring Opener

Kalmer & Surawski lead Golden Bears with impressive debuts

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (March 4, 2017) – The Western New England University men's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 7-2 victory over Norwich University this afternoon in non-conference action at Shapiro Field House.

Top Performers
• Freshmen David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with impressive collegiate debuts. Kalmer and Surawski were victorious at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, after teaming up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
• Sophomore Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) also came out on top in both his singles and doubles matches.  

Match Review
• Western New England built a 2-1 lead through doubles play as the Kalmer/Surawski picked up a win at No. 1, and freshman Daniel O'Neill (Branford, Conn.) joined Kohut for an 8-0 triumph at No. 2.
• The Golden Bears rolled through singles play, with Kalmer, Surawski, sophomore Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) all picking up victories.

Western New England (1-1) will be back in action next Saturday, when the Golden Bears take on Thomas (Maine) in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
