Golden Bears Roll to 9-0 Win over Johnson State

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2017) – The Western New England University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Johnson State College on Saturday afternoon at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Top Performers
• Senior Vu Nguyen (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) and freshmen Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) and Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) all posted wins in both singles and doubles play to lead to the Golden Bears.

Match Review
• Western New England opened up a 3-0 lead through doubles play as the No. 1 duo of Surawski and sophomore Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) and No. 3 team of Nguyen and junior Joe Martoccia (Hartford, Conn.) both cruised to 8-0 victories.
• Western New England completed the 9-0 triumph with a sweep of the six singles matches. Surawski posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gerrit Lane, while senior captain Brian Grohe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Matthew Fogg.

Western New England (6-7) will be back in action next Wednesday at Gordon, while Johnson State (1-10) returns home to host Lyndon State on Tuesday.
