Golden Bears Secure Spot in CCC Tournament with 5-2 Win over Curry on Senior Day

Arnold clinches match with 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (April 25, 2017) – The Western New England University men's tennis team secured a berth in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Curry College on Tuesday evening at Grand Meadows Tennis Club.

Prior to the start of the match, Western New England honored senior captain Brian Grohe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) for his contributions to the program over the past four years.

Top Performers
• Freshman Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.), who was victorious in both singles and doubles play, clinched the match for the Golden Bears with his 6-0, 6-1 victory over Zach Muller at No. 5 singles.
• Sophomore Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles.

Match Review
• Western New England led 2-1 after doubles, as Kohut teamed up with freshman David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) for an 8-5 win over Aidan Roach and Dawson Stento at No. 1, and Arnold joined sophomore Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) to earn an 8-6 result over Muller and Ben Higgins at No. 3.
• In singles play, Kohut defeated Ryan Sullivan, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Surawski registered a 6-3, 6-5 victory at No. 3, setting the stage for Arnold's match-clinching triumph at No. 5.
