Kalmer named to 2nd team for singles, duo earns 3rd team honors for doubles

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 27, 2017) – Freshman David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and sophomore Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's tennis team have both earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors, the league office announced on Thursday.

Kalmer was named to the All-CCC second team for singles, while the duo of Kalmer and Kohut collected All-CCC third team recognition for doubles.

Kalmer made an immediate impact in his first season with the Western New England men's tennis program, going 7-7 overall with a 3-4 record in CCC action. He posted a record of 7-6 at the top of the Golden Bears' singles lineup, while dropping his only match at No. 3 singles during the fall portion of the season. Kalmer defeated fellow second team honoree Jake Cole of Roger Williams by a 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 score on March 29.

Kohut, who was recognized as an All-CCC second team doubles performer along with Andres Otero '16 last spring, earns his second straight All-CCC doubles honor with third team accolades this season. Kalmer and Kohut posted a record of 5-5 (3-5 CCC) as Western New England's top doubles tandem in 2016-17. The duo finished the regular season strong, winning each of their last three matches. Kohut also went a combined 7-8 (2-6 CCC) from the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions this spring.

The sixth-seeded Golden Bears (9-8, 3-5 CCC) will be on the road at third-seeded Gordon College (15-5, 6-2 CCC) in the first round of the CCC Tournament on Saturday.
