Western New England Tied for Fifth Place After Opening Round of NEIGA Championship

Zogby leading Golden Bears with three-over par 75

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 21, 2018) – The Western New England University men's golf team is tied for fifth place following a strong opening round showing at the 84th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on Sunday at The Captains Golf Course.

Western New England is tied for fifth place in the 23-team field with CCC foe Nichols College after the Golden Bears posted a score of 317 during Sunday's action. Williams College is leading the way after turning in a score of 310, while Babson (313) and Husson (314) are close behind. Jacob Poitras of Worcester State and Reid Buzby of Middlebury are tied atop the 114-golfer field after carding one-over par scores of 73.

Western New England sophomore Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) is just two strokes off the pace set by Poitras and Buzby with his three-over 75, which has him in a five-way tie for third place.

Sophomore Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) is tied for 17th with an opening round 78, while freshman Andrew Crean's (Victor, N.Y.) 79 is good for a tie for 26th.

Sophomores Kade Howard (Ludlow, Mass.) and Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) are tied for 73rd and 81st, respectively, as Howard turned in a score of 85 and Sinacola carded an 86.

Western New England will be right back in action on Monday with the second round of the NEIGA Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
