Zogby Claims Medalist Honors as Golden Bears Tie for 2nd Place at CCC Championship
WILBRAHAM, Mass. (April 28, 2019) – Sophomore Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) earned medalist honors as the top individual finisher while the Western New England University men's golf team tied for second place at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Sunday at the Country Club of Wilbraham.
The entire 36-hole tournament, which was originally scheduled to be played over the course of the weekend, took place in rainy conditions on Sunday following Saturday's postponement.
At the conclusion of the opening round, Nichols (313) held a two-stroke lead over Western New England (315), while Roger Williams (317) and Endicott (318) rounded out the four-team field. The Gulls stormed back with a score of 293 in round two to capture the title by five strokes over the Golden Bears (301) and the Bison (303), who both finished at 616. Roger Williams turned in a second round score of 311 and finished with a total of 628 to take fourth place.
Zogby paced the 20-player field with a 36-hole score of 146 to capture medalist honors. He carded an opening round 76 (+4), before turning in an impressive 70 (-2) in round two to edge out Carter Knox of Endicott by one stroke.
Sophomore Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) was the second Golden Bear to finish inside the top-five with his combined score of 151 (77+74), good for fourth place.
Sophomore Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) opened the day with an 81, before posting a four-stroke improvement in the second round as he carded a 77. Sinacola's 36-hole score of 158 placed him in a three-way tie for tenth place.
Sophomore Kade Howard (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Crean (Victor, N.Y.) finished in a tie for 15th place with scores of 163. Howard posted an 83 and followed it up with an 80, while Crean registered efforts of 81 and 82.
