John Abbott Named CCC Golfer of the Week After Winning Fall Qualifier
Higganum, Conn. native recognized for the second time this season
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 10, 2017) – After earning medalist honors with his first place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Fall Qualifier last Thursday, senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's golf team has been named the CCC Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Abbott collects CCC Golfer of the Week accolades for the second time this season and fourth of his career after pacing the field of 35 with a one-under par 70 at the CCC Fall Qualifier, which was held at Montaup Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I.
The senior, who is a two-time All-CCC first team selection, shot a hole-in-one on the par three sixth. The Golden Bears finished second overall in the field of seven teams, and will compete for the CCC championship next fall.
Abbott was also Western New England's top performer over the weekend at the Elms College Blazer Invitational, finishing fifth in the field of 80 with a two-round score of 149 (74+75).
The Golden Bears will be off next weekend, before wrapping up their fall schedule at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on October 21-23 at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.
