Abbott Leading Golden Bears at Williams Invitational

Senior sits in fourth place in 116-player field after round one  

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (September 23, 2017) – Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) shot an opening round 71 to lead the Western New England University men's golf team on Saturday at the Williams Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College at Taconic Golf Club. 

Western New England is in fifth place as a team in the 19-team field with a round one score of 305. Trinity College is leading the way with a score of 294, while Williams (295), Middlebury (299) and St. John Fisher (304) round out the top four. Trinity's Will Rosenfield sits atop the individual leaderboard with a three-under par score of 68.

• Abbott's even par 71 has him in fourth place in the 116-player field following round one action.

Also Competing for Western New England
• Seniors Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) all shot 78's on Saturday, placing them in a tie for 31st, while freshman Tyler Sinacola's (North Attleboro, Mass.) score of 80 is good for 41st overall.
