Metcalf & Ciolek Leading Golden Bears at NEIGA Championship

Western New England in fourth place following round one action

BREWSTER, Mass. (October 22, 2017) –
Led by seniors Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.), the Western New England University men's golf team is in fourth place following round one of the 83rd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which was held on Sunday at the Captains Golf Course.

Western New England posted a team score of 306, good for fourth in the 19-team field. Husson University is leading the way with a score of 298, while Rhode Island College (303) and Babson College (305) are in second and third, respectively. Husson's Daulton Wickenden sits atop the individual leaderboard after carding a three-under par 69 during round one action.

Top Performers
• Metcalf led the way for the Golden Bears, turning in a one-over par 73 on Sunday, good for a three-way tie for third in the 94-player field.
• Ciolek is tied for sixth after posting a two-over 74.

Also Competing for Western New England
• Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) shot a six-over par 78 and is tied for 27th.
• Freshmen Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) recorded matching scores of 81, placing them in a tie for 42nd.
