John Abbott Repeats as CCC Golfer of the Week
Higganum, Conn. native finished fifth at Elms Blazer Invitational over Columbus Day Weekend
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 16, 2017) – Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's golf team has earned his second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Golfer of the Week award, the league office announced on Monday.
Abbott garners CCC weekly recognition for the third time this season and fifth time in his career after finishing fifth overall in the field of 80 players at the Elms College Blazer Invitational over Columbus Day Weekend.
Abbott carded a two-over par 74 during the opening round at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Amherst, Mass., and followed that up with a three-over 75 on day two at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. The Higganum, Conn. native finished with a combined score of 149, just three strokes off the pace set by Chris Bornhorst of Babson College and Alex Honigford of Tufts University.
Western New England finished tied for second as a team in the field of 16 with a score of 612.
The Golden Bears wrap up their fall schedule this weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships, which will be held from Saturday-Monday at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
