Western New England Finishes Tied for 2nd at Blazer Invitational

Abbott finishes fifth overall after shooting 75 during round two

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (October 9, 2017) –
The Western New England University men's golf team finished in second place at the Elms College Blazer Invitational following round two action on Monday at The Orchards Golf Club. 

Western New England, which entered today's action in sole possession of second place after shooting a team score of 297 on Sunday, posted a 315 during round two and finished the tournament tied with Rhode Island College with a two-day total of 612. Babson College captured the team title by 14 strokes with a score of 598, while Babson's Chris Bornhorst and Alex Honigford of Tufts University shared medalist honors with matching 146's.  

Top Performers
• Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.), who sat in a tie for seventh place after carding a 74 during round one on Sunday, shot a 75 today and moved up to fifth place with a two-round score of 149.
• Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) followed up yesterday's 74 with a 77 on Monday and finished tied for seventh with a combined score of 151.
• Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.), Western New England's round one leader with an even par 72, fell from second into a tie for 15th after shooting an 82 on Monday.

• Freshman Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) – T-28th (77+81=158)
• Freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) – T-53rd (79+86=165)

Western New England will be off next weekend, before wrapping up its fall schedule at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on October 21-23 at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.
