Zogby Leads Golden Bears at Westfield State Invitational

Freshman earns co-medalist honors as WNE claims team title

WESTFIELD, Mass. (April 24, 2018) –
Freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) earned co-medalist honors as the Western New England University men's golf team topped the four-team field at the Westfield State University Spring Invitational on Tuesday at Tekoa Country Club. 

The Golden Bears tied Westfield's State's "Blue" team with a score of 312, but took the title due to the fifth score tiebreaker as senior Mike Metcalf's (Longmeadow, Mass.) 83 edged Cam Stanton's 85. Westfield State's "White" team placed third with a score of 344, while Johnson State rounded out the four-team field with a 350.

Zogby shared medalist honors with Westfield State's Garrett Desmond, as both players carded a three-over par 75.

Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.), who was named the CCC Golfer of the Week on Monday, tied for 3rd place in the 23-player field with a score of 78. 

Freshman Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine), the CCC Rookie of the Week, shot a 79, good for a tie for fifth, while senior Joe Ciolek (South ) tied for 7th after turning in an 80.

Competing as an individual, freshman Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) tied for 12th and posted a score of 84.
