Golden Bears Conclude Fall Season with Fourth Place Finish at NEIGA Championship
Abbott and Zogby lead Western New England during round two
BREWSTER, Mass. (October 23, 2017) – The Western New England University men's golf team concluded its fall season with a fourth place finish at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which wrapped up with round two action on Monday at the Captains Golf Course.
The Golden Bears, who entered the day's action in fourth place in the 19-team field after turning in a round one score of 306, maintained their position and finished fourth with a round two score of 302 (608 total). Husson University won the team title with a score of 586, while Rhode Island College (597) and Babson College (599) finished second and third, respectively. Husson junior Daulton Wickendon captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 142.
Top Performers
• Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) led the way for the Golden Bears during round two, as both players shot a one-over par 73. Abbott, who climbed all the way from 27th to a 14th place finish after turning in a 78 on Sunday, completed the tournament with a total score of 151. Zogby jumped from 42nd to 23rd after carding an 81 during round one.
• Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) was Western New England's top individual finisher, as he placed tenth overall in the 94-player field with scores of 74 and 76 during rounds one and two, respectively.

• Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished in a tie for 17th with a combined score of 153 (73+80).
• Freshman Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed 54th after turning in scores of 81 on Sunday and 82 on Monday.
