Golden Bears Finish 29th at NCAA DIII Championships

Ciolek shoots even par 72 in round two, finishes in tie for 47th  

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 16, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's golf team placed 29th at the NCAA Division III Championships after posting a score of 306 during round two action on Wednesday at Grandover Resort. 

The Golden Bears, who sat in a tie for 33rd place in the 41-team field with a score of 316 following the conclusion of round one on Wednesday morning, moved up to 29th with a ten-stroke improvement in the second round.

Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) led Western New England, as he tied for 47th place after following up his 77 in round one with an even-par 72 today.

Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) finished with a two-day total of 156 (T-113th) with a five-over par 77 in round two after carding an opening round 79.

Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) tied for 145th overall with scores of 159. Metcalf improved on his round one showing (81) with a 78 today, while Zogby followed up his 79 with an 80.

Freshman Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) finished in a tie for 168th with a two-day total of 162. He shot an 83 in the opening round and posted a four-stroke improvement with a 79 in round two.
