Golden Bears Place Second at Rich Korzec Invitational

Abbott paces Western New England with two-over par 74

SUTTON, Mass. (April 17, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's golf team turned in a second place finish on Tuesday at the Rich Korzec Invitational, hosted by Worcester State University at Blackstone National Golf Club. 

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 319, good for second in the seven-team field. Nichols College won the event with a score of 315, while Rhode Island College's Nathan Patterson claimed medalist honors after carding a one-under par 71.

Western New England was again led by senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.), who tied for second overall in the 35-golfer field with a two-over par 74.

Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) both finished inside the top ten as well, as they tied for ninth with scores of 80.

Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) posted an 85, good for 21st, while freshman Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed 25th with a score of 87.
