Golden Bears in Second Place at Blazer Fall Invitational

Metcalf leading Western New England after shooting opening round 72

AMHERST, Mass. (October 8, 2017) –
With three players in the top ten of the individual leaderboard, the Western New England University men's golf team is in second place following round one of the Elms College Blazer Invitational, which was held on Sunday at Hickory Ridge Golf Club.

The Golden Bears shot a combined score of 297, good for second overall in the 16-team field. Babson College has a three-stroke lead with a day one score of 294, while Rhode Island College (302), Westfield State University (304) and Springfield College (308) round out the top five. Babson freshman Lane Bohman sits atop the leaderboard after posting a one-under par 71 during the opening round.

Top Performers
• Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, carding an even par 72, good for a three-way tie for second place in the 79-player field.
• Seniors John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) are tied for seventh after turning in matching scores of 74.

Also Competing for Western New England
• Freshman Tyler Sinacola's (North Attleboro, Mass.) first round 77 has him tied for 24th.
• Freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) recorded a score of 79, good for 38th overall.
