Golden Bears Hold 14-Stroke Lead Following Round One of CCC Championship

Ciolek sits atop individual leaderboard with one-under par 69

SALEM, Mass. (April 28, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's golf team has a 14-stroke lead over second place Endicott College following the first round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship on Saturday at Kernwood Country Club. 

Western New England posted a team score of 289 during round one, while Endicott sits in second place after turning in a combined score of 303. Roger Williams (316) and Nichols (319) round out the four team field.

Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, as his one-under par 69 paced the 20-golfer field.

Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) is in second place after carding a one-over 71, while classmate Mike Metcalf's (Longmeadow, Mass.) 73 has him in a tie with Endicott's Ben Palazzo for third.

Freshmen Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) and Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) posted scores of 76 and 78, respectively.

Round two action gets underway on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. as Western New England looks to capture its fourth CCC title (2008, 2015-16).
