Western New England Finishes Third at Williams Invitational

Abbott places sixth in 94-player field, Metcalf shoots even par 71 on Sunday

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (September 24, 2017) – The Western New England University men's golf team turned in a round two score of 296 and finished third of 19 teams this weekend at the Williams Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College at Taconic Golf Course. 

Western New England, which sat in fifth place entering Sunday's action after posting a score of 305 during round one, climbed two spots into third as three Golden Bears improved upon their score from Saturday's action. Trinity College took the team title with a score of 584 (294 + 290), while host Williams placed second (589). Babson (610) and Middlebury (611) followed Western New England in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Trinity's Will Rosenfield claimed medalist honors with a two-day score of 139.

Top Performers
• Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the Golden Bears on Sunday, carding an even par 71 to climb all the way from 31st up to 11th place. Metcalf shot a 78 during round one and finished with a combined score of 149.
• Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) was Western New England's top finisher overall with scores of 71 and 76 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Abbott's two-round total of 147 placed him in a tie for sixth place in the 94-player field.
• Senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) followed up his round one 78 with a two-over par 73 on Sunday, finishing with a total of 151 that was good for a tie for 14th overall.

Also Competing for Western New England
• Freshmen Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished in a tie for 25th and 59th place, respectively.
