Three Laxers Pick Up Weekly Accolades

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2022) – Three from the Western New England lacrosse teams were honored with weekly awards after their performances on the field in two conference matches this week. Men's lacrosse's Mike Bannon and Kevin Faustich as well as women's lacrosse's' Kylie Buchanan all picked up honors for WNE this week. 

Men's Lacrosse:

Mike Bannon was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week after the Golden Bears collected two CCC wins over the week. In a 18-5 win over Nichols College, the senior scored a goal and collected six assists for the Golden Bears, guiding WNE to victory. Bannon collected seven points in total, while scooping one ground ball and taking five shots, three on goal. WNE came away with their biggest win of the week on Saturday against Endicott College where again Bannon shined scoring two goals and picking up two assists for WNE in the win. Bannon collected four points, causing one turnover, and taking another five shots in the contest. On the season, Bannon has recorded an even split, scoring 28 times while picking up 28 assists as well, good for 56 points. In his 51-game career, Bannon has netted 87 goals and assisted on 98, good for 185 career points. 

Kevin Faustich was named CCC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting his first goal of the season at the end of the first half against Endicott to give the Golden Bears a 5-4 lead at the half. On the week, Faustichcollected 13 ground balls, including a career high 11 in the win over Endicott on Saturday. The defensive defenseman has appeared in 12 games for WNE this season, making 11 starts. Faustich has collected five career goals and five career assists, good for ten points. He has scooped 186 career groundballs while causing 91 turnovers in his 65-game career.

Western New England men's lacrosse will remain at home on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 pm to host Salve Regina University (6-5, 4-1 CCC) in a CCC showdown. 

Women's Lacrosse: 

Junior Kylie Buchanan picks up her first CCC Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after tucking home eight goals in two games during the week. Buchanan led Western New England with four goals and four points during a 21-2 win over Nichols College in a mid-week CCC contest. In the contest, Buchanan collected two ground balls and took seven shots, six going on target. Western New England would fall short in the home contest against Endicott College on Saturday, though Buchanan would still lead the Golden Bears with another four-goal contest, picking up another four points. In the losing effort, Buchanan also collected two ground balls and caused one turnover, while taking five shots, all on goal. On the season, Buchanan has scored a career high 30 goals to go along with three assists, good for 33 points on the year. The Westfield, Massachusetts native has collected 11 ground balls while causing six turnovers and taken 71 shots, 54 on target. Western New England women's lacrosse is back in action tomorrow, April 19, at 4:00 pm for a CCC tilt with Salve Regina University (6-3, 3-2 CCC).
