Three From Men’s Lacrosse Pick Up Final CCC Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 9, 2022) – The Western New England men's lacrosse team took three weekly awards this week in the final CCC Athlete of the Week selections, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Three graduate students, Matt Greer, Mitch Weiss, and Jack Seiter took respective accolades on the week. 

Matt Greer, the reigning CCC Offensive Player of the Year, proved why he was selected to the accolade after anchoring the Golden Bears offense on their way to the CCC Championship. Greer led the team with eight points, two goals and six assists, in a 20-7 CCC Semifinal win over Nichols College to get the Golden Bears into the championship game. In the contest, Greer scooped three ground balls, while coming away with one caused turnover. He also took seven shots in the contest, while taking five shots on goal. In the championship clincher over Endicott, Greer shined once more, coming away with three goals and two assists, good for five points on the afternoon. The attack took five shots in the contest, coming away with three shots on goal which all found the back of the net. 

Graduate defenseman Mitch Weiss came away with defensive player of the week honors after collecting nine ground balls and one caused turnover, on his way to a CCC Championship. The graduate defenseman was named CCC Defensive Player of Year after holding opponents to just 170 goals during the regular season. 

Graduate student Jack Seiter picked up his first recognition of the season at the CCC Specialist of the Week after collecting 37 faceoff wins in 53 attempts on his way to a CCC Championship. Seiter scooped 17 ground balls in the two playoff wins for WNE while also taking one shot on goal. In the faceoff circle, Seiter went 20-23 in the win over Nichols College, following that performance up with a 17-30 showing in the championship win over Endicott College. On the season, Seiter collected 203 faceoff wins in 361 attempts while scoring two goals and scooping a career high 87 ground balls. 

Western New England matches with No. 11 University of Lynchburg on Saturday, May 14 at 3:00 pm in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament hosted by Union College. To read the preview for the game click here.
