Six Laxers Named to NEILA All-New England Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 31, 2022) – Following the conclusion of the season, the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) named their All-New England teams, placing six Golden Bears on the list of honorees. 

Mitch Weiss (Westfield, Mass.) collects his third honors in as many weeks, having picked up CCC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Third Team-All American, go now go along with All-New England First Team defense. The graduate student played in 78 games for Western New England over his career, making starts in every game. Weiss came around to score five goals and added five assists, good for ten points in his career. Weiss's 224 ground balls sit fourth all-time amongst alumni of WNE lacrosse. Weiss caused 77 turnovers in his career with Western New England, while taking 13 shots towards goal.

Fellow graduate student Matt Greer (South Windsor, Conn.) picked up second team All-New England honors after putting together a career year for the Golden Bears, which included a record for single season points (94) this season. Greer's standout season included 37 goals and 57 assists, while picking up a game best eight points on three separate occasions. The graduate student scored 201 points over his career with the Golden Bears, sitting him in fifth place of the all-time leading scorers in Western New England men's lacrosse's history. Competing in 76 games, Greer scored 79 goals and added 122 assists in his career. The graduate with a degree in marketing scooped 109 ground balls while causing 12 turnovers in his career. Greer took 251 shots in 76 games, putting 164 on goal.

Picking up honorable mentions to the All-New England teams were Western New England's Conor Tracy, Kevin Faustich, Jack Seiter, and Murphy HartmannTracy (Walpole, Mass.) scored 39 goals and collected 17 assists for a career best 56 points during the 2022 season. Tracy scooped a total of 15 ground balls and took 127 shots this season, putting 77 on goal. In his career, Tracy has played in 76 games, making 3 starts, scoring 81 goals, picking up 36 assists, good for 117 points. His 261 shots rank third all-time in program history. 

Faustich (Seymour, Conn.) helped anchor the men's lacrosse defense, while also picking up an honorable mention All-American award. Faustich helped guide the Golden Bears defense this season while also contributing on the offensive end, coming away with a career best three goals and two assists, good for five points. Faustich led Western New England in caused turnovers, coming away with 25 this season, while scooping 62 ground balls, which ranked third on WNE this season. Over his 72 games played, Faustich made 61 starts, scoring seven goals, and collecting five assists, good for 12 points. Faustich scooped 213 ground balls, while causing 98 turnovers over his five-year career.

Seiter (Ridgewood, N.J.) helped the Golden Bears in the faceoff circle all season long, being Western New England's rock as their faceoff specialist. The graduate student won a career high 235 faceoffs this season and attempted a career high 421 faceoffs this season as well. Seiter scooped 100 ground balls during the 2022 season and 249 in his five-year career. Seiter also contributed on the offensive end this season, scoring twice for the Golden Bears. 

Honorable mention All-American Murphy Hartmann (Anthem, Ariz.) picked up honorable mention in the NEILA All-New England Teams this season. Hartmann competed in all 21 games during the season, picking up 13 starts. Hartmann scored five times with the short stick while also picking up three assists, good for eight points overall. The communication media production and journalism graduate scooped a career high 29 ground balls while also causing a career best nine turnovers for WNE. Hartmann has scored 12 goals and dished nine assists, good for 21 points in his four-year career. 

In 2021, the Golden Bears saw four selected to the NEILA All New England Team, seeing both Kevin Faustich and Mitch Weiss on that list.
