Men’s Lacrosse Runs over Fighting Scots, 18-6

WENHAM, Mass. (April 23, 2022) – The Western New England men's lacrosse team had no problems taking down another CCC opponent, as the Gordon College Fighting Scots were no match for the Golden Bears on the afternoon, as Western New England took down Gordon 18-6. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 11-5, 7-0 CCC
  • Gordon College: 2-10, 1-6 CCC

How it Happened:

Mike Bannon led the Golden Bears off to a good start after he picked up his 190th career point as a Golden Bear on an assist from Conor Tracy to get the Golden Bears an opening 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. Western New England scored the opening three goals in the contest as Bannon would record two goals while Matt Greer picked up the other goal for WNE, giving the Golden Bears an opening 3-0 lead, seven minutes into the contest. Gordon would come back with a goal of their own when Joel Bean found the back of the net to get the Fighting Scots on the board. Western New England wouldn't shy away from scoring, picking up seven first quarter goals, including four to end the final five minutes of the quarter. Mike Bannon, Dylan Hanley, Kevin Faustich, and David Kasper would all find goals for the Golden Bears in the opening 15 minutes. 

WNE came away with the first four goals in the second quarter after Noah Rust, Joseph Contino and Josh Salem found the back of the net for the Golden Bears as Gregory Perry and TJ Dalicandro would draw assists for WNE as well. Gordon picked up their third goal of the afternoon with 6:56 to play in the second quarter though it surely would be too late to mount a comeback. Matt Greer potted the final goal of the quarter for WNE to give the Golden Bears a 12-3 lead at the end of the first half. 

Western New England picked up the only three goals of the third quarter as Ben Kolb, Nicholas Campagnone, Joseph Bussinelli, and Matthew Quinn would all find the back of the net. Brendan DiRamio picked up the lone assist of the quarter for Western New England as the Golden Bears would jet out to a 16-3 lead after three quarters of play. The first two goals of the fourth quarter would come from the Fighting Scots as Joel Bean and Marco Fernandez would find the back of the net. Ty Allen and Trevor Crawford would pick up goals for Western New England in the fourth to send Western New England to a 13-goal lead as 18-5. Gordon would find the back of the net one final time before Western New England would finish with a 18-6 win over the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon. 

Around the Lines:

  • Mike Bannon finished with a game best three goals in the win coming away with seven shots for the Golden Bears. Matt Greer led the team with four points on the afternoon, scoring two goals and picking up two assists. 
  • The Golden Bears used three goalkeepers on the afternoon as Carter Randall, Jonathon Salsbury, and Benjamin Devine would combine for nine saves in the WNE win.
  • Gordon's Colin Liscomb made 21 saves on 59 shots faced in the loss. Kobi Bui and Joel Bean each scored two for the Fighting Scots. 
  • Western New England saw 14 different goal scorers on the afternoon while 18 players recorded at least one point.
