Wheaton Edges Western New England in Overtime, 2-1

Junior Troy Remillard scores Golden Bears lone goal in 41st minute 

NORTON, Mass. (September 7, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team fell to Wheaton College, 2-1, in overtime this afternoon in non-conference action at Keefe Field.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) scored Western New England's first goal of the 2016 campaign in the 41st minute, tying the score at 1-1.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) kept the Golden Bears in the game throughout, making ten saves in net.

• Junior forward Amara Sesay (Bronx, N.Y.) secured the win for the Lyons with his unassisted goal nine minutes into overtime.

Match Review
• Wheaton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute, when senior Kevin Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) sent a cross into the box from the right flank, and freshman forward Roni Diniz (Brockton, Mass.) headed the ball past Strobel and into the net.
• Remillard equalized for the Golden Bears less than five minutes before halftime with an unassisted strike from the left side of the 18-yard box.
• Sesay notched the game-winner at the 99:11 mark of the extra session, finding the top left corner of the net with a close range shot.  

Notes
• Western New England outshot Wheaton 10-7 in the first half, but the Lyons held a 16-3 advantage the rest of the way.
• Remillard, who led the Golden Bears with 12 goals last fall, now has 15 in his Western New England career. The junior finished with a team-high six shots this afternoon, putting three of those attempts on target.

Western New England (0-3) will look to get back on track this Saturday, as the Golden Bears are set to host the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both programs at 2:30 p.m. Wheaton (3-1) hits the road on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. contest at Keene State.
