Western New England Nets Four First Half Goals in 4-2 win Over Elms

Pingree leads first half surge with two goals, one assist

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 4, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals in the first half on its way to a 4-2, non-conference victory over Elms College this afternoon at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) fueled Western New England's offensive surge in the first half with a pair of goals and one assist.
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) put two shots on goal and found the back of the net for the third consecutive contest, capping the four-goal half with his tally in the 44th minute.

• Sophomore defender Colby Macdonald (Bristol, Conn.) gave Elms an early lead with his second goal of the season.

Match Review
• The Blazers opened the scoring 12:29 into the contest when Macdonald ended up with the ball at his feet after a failed clearance by a Golden Bear defender, and he placed a shot past Western New England senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.).
• Elms' lead was short lived, however, as Pingree equalized for the Golden Bears with a shot from the right side of the penalty area that found the side netting just inside the far post.
• Western New England then took the lead for good in the 22nd minute, when senior midfielder Kory Caster's (Wilbraham, Mass.) shot from just outside the area deflected off Elms' freshman goalkeeper Tyler Graves' (Monson, Mass.) outstretched hands and into the net.
• The Golden Bears continued to attack, scoring for the third time at the 30:47 mark as Pingree headed home a corner kick taken by freshman forward Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.).
• Remillard made it 4-1 in favor of Western New England just 1:17 before halftime after receiving a pass from Pingree, beating an Elms defender and sneaking a shot under Graves.
• The Blazers got one goal back in the 87th minute, as junior midfielder C.J. Dabkowski (Bristol, Conn.) launched a shot from 30 yards out, beating Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Lavigne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), who came on to replace Strobel in the 79th minute.

Notes
• Remillard, who was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week yesterday after scoring four goals last week, now leads the Golden Bears with eight goals this season.
• Pingree (six goals, four assists) and Remillard are tied for the team lead with 16 points each, which is good for third in the CCC.
• Western New England's 27 shots this afternoon are a season-high. The Golden Bears outshot the Blazers 27-10 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
