Golden Bears Advance to CCC Semifinals with 3-1 Victory over Roger Williams

All-CCC first team selection Troy Remillard leads Western New England with two goals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 29, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team secured a spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Roger Williams University this afternoon at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.), who was named to the All-CCC first team earlier this week, fueled the Western New England offense with two goals and put a team-high four shots on target.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) stopped seven of the eight shots that he faced.

Match Review
• Remillard staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, as he took a pass from senior defender Brandon Bolger (Saratoga, N.Y.) and beat Roger Williams freshman goalkeeper Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) with a shot to the lower left corner of the net.
• Roger Williams equalized in the 58th minute, when senior forward Dan Kelly (Miller Place, N.Y.) headed home a free kick taken by sophomore midfielder Riley Parnham (Califon, N.J.).
• Just under three minutes later, sophomore midfielder Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) put Western England back in front for good, scoring on a header following senior Kory Caster's (Wilbraham, Mass.) free kick.
• In the 63rd minute, Remillard netted an insurance goal with the help of an assist from senior forward Scott Trautwein (Pequannock, N.J.).

Notes
• With the win, Western New England climbs above the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Golden Bears have won four straight games dating back to October 18.
• Roger Williams outshot Western New England 14-13, but the two teams were even with four corner kicks each.
• Remillard's two goals this afternoon give him a career-high 13 for the season. He leads the Golden Bears and ranks third in the CCC with 29 points.
