Liccardi, Remillard Score as Golden Bears Blank Westfield State, 2-0

Strobel notches 11th career clean sheet with three-save effort  

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 14, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team scored a goal in each half on its way to a 2-0 shutout of Westfield State University this afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Sophomore midfielder Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) each scored for the Golden Bears, with Liccardi's goal coming early in the first half and Remillard's tally serving as an insurance goal late in the second half.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) stopped all three shots that came his way, earning his second shutout of the season.

Game Review
• Liccardi staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead at the 18:36 mark of the first half with the help of an assist from freshman forward Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.).
• Western New England nearly doubled its advantage 1:37 before halftime, when junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) fired a shot that hit off Westfield State's crossbar and deflected just in front of the goal line.
• Remillard sealed the victory for the Golden Bears in the 89th minute, as he ended up with the ball after Owls' junior goalkeeper Alex Kraver (West Springfield, Mass.) collided with a defender, allowing the junior to walk in for an easy finish.

Notes
• Western New England is 2-1 in three matches at Suprenant Field this season.
• The Golden Bears outshot the Owls by a 13-8 margin and also held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
• Strobel's shutout marks the 11th clean sheet of his career.
