Pingree’s Two-Goal Effort Helps Golden Bears Defeat Nor’easters in CCC Opener, 2-0

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel registers two-save shutout

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 10, 2016) – Junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) scored a pair of goals as Western New England University opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 2-0 victory over the University of New England this afternoon at Suprenant Field.  

Top Performers
• Pingree helped the Golden Bears snap their season-opening three match skid with the first multi-goal performance of his career.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) made a pair of saves en route to his first clean sheet of the season.

• University of New England senior goalie Elijah Leverett (North Yarmouth, Maine) turned back eight of the ten shots that he faced.  

Match Review
• After a scoreless first half, Pingree got the Golden Bears on the board in the 50th minute when he was able to find the back of the net with a shot that deflected off of Leverett.
• Pingree sealed the win for Western New England with his second goal of the contest in the 81st minute, as he made a move to get past Leverett before slotting a shot into the open net.

Notes
• Western New England held a 16-5 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Strobel's shutout represents the tenth of his career.

Western New England (1-3) will be right back in action tomorrow with a non-conference contest against Clark University. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Suprenant Field.
