Western New England Rallies for Thrilling 4-3 Victory over Keene State

Remillard registers first career hat trick, Young scores game-winner in 87th minute

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 28, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team scored two goals over the final 6:54 of regulation to earn a thrilling, 4-3 victory over Keene State College this afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.   

Top Performers
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) was a force offensively, registering his first career hat trick while firing a game-high five shots on goal. With Western New England trailing 2-0 early in the first half, he tallied a pair of goals to even the score. After the Owls pulled ahead early in the second half, Remillard headed home the equalizer in the 84th minute. He also hit the crossbar with consecutive shots in the seventh minute.
• Junior forward Maurice Young (Walpole, Mass.) capped Western New England's comeback with the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute.
• Senior midfielder Kory Caster (Wilbraham, Mass.) helped set up two of Western New England's goals with crosses into the 18-yard box.

• Junior forward Promise Kpee (Manchester, N.H.) scored Keene State's second goal and he led the Owls in both shots (four) and shots on goal (two).

Match Review
• Keene State jumped out to an early lead on junior midfielder Aidan Dean's (Laconia, N.H.) goal at the 6:00 mark, and the visitors made it 2-0 in the 18th minute when Kpee found the back of the net with the help of an assist from sophomore Matthew Povall (LaGrangeville, N.Y.).
• Remillard got the Golden Bears on the board with exactly 15 minutes remaining in the first half when he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and fired a shot past Keene State sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Whelan (Windsor, Conn.). The junior netted his second goal just 1:13 later, finishing off a cross from Caster to even the score heading into halftime.
• Keene State regained a 3-2 lead in the 60th minute on freshman midfielder LJ Luster's (Colchester, Conn.) third goal of the season.
• Still trailing with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, Remillard completed his hat trick at the 83:06 mark with a header off another cross from Caster.
• The Golden Bears continued to attack, taking their first lead of the afternoon with just 3:17 left in the contest when Young redirected a low cross from junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) past Whelan.

Notes
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) made all three of his saves in the second half.
• Western New England's four goals are a season-high.
• Remillard's three-goal performance propels him ahead of Pingree for the team lead in both goals (six) and points (12).
• Young's game-winner was the fourth of his career. He scored two as a freshman and one last fall.
