Logan Pingree Nets Overtime Game-Winner for Golden Bears in 1-0 Victory at Salve Regina

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel records ten-save shutout

NEWPORT, R.I. (October 23, 2016) – Junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) scored with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime session, lifting the Western New England University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Salve Regina University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Reynolds Field.   

Top Performers
• Pingree, who ranks second on the team with 20 points (eight goals, four assists), put a team-high three shots on target.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) registered a ten-save shutout, his fourth clean sheet of the season and 13th of his career.

• Salve Regina sophomore goalkeeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) stopped six of the seven shots that he faced.

Match Review
• Salve Regina outshot Western New England in both the first (8-4) and second (5-2) halves, but neither team was able to break through, sending the contest to overtime.
• The Golden Bears held a 5-3 edge in shots during the two extra periods, while the Seahawks had the only corner kick of overtime in the 101st minute.
• Pingree put a shot on target at the 101:43 mark, but Payan was there to make the save. Pingree capitalized on his next shot in the 109th minute, however, sending the Golden Bears home with a hard fought victory.

• Western New England improves to 1-2 in three overtime games this season.
• The Golden Bears have won back-to-back matches for the third time this fall.
• Three of Pingree's eight goals in 2016 have served as game-winners.
