Western New England Falls to CCC-Leading Gordon, 2-0

Fighting Scots limit Golden Bears to three shots on target  

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 24, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team fell to Gordon College, 2-0, this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Junior midfielder Joshua Cochran (Bellville, Ohio) and freshman midfielder Matt Chartier (Concord, N.H.) each scored in the first half for Gordon, providing all of the offense the Fighting Scots would need.

• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) made six saves in net for Western New England.

Game Review
• Chartier opened the scoring for Gordon in the 18th minute, when he fired a shot from outside the penalty area into the top left corner of the net.
• Cochran made it 2-0 in favor of the visitors in the 43rd minute with a header goal off a corner kick taken by senior midfielder Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.).
• Western New England challenged Gordon senior goalkeeper Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) with three shots on goal in the second half, but the Golden Bears were unable to break through.  

Notes
• After being outshot 9-0 over the opening 45 minutes, Western New England recorded five shots to Gordon's four in the second half. The Fighting Scots held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
• Junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) accounted for two of the Golden Bears' five shots.

Up Next
Western New England (3-6, 2-1 CCC) will look to bounce back on Wednesday against Keene State, while Gordon (6-1-1, 2-0-1 CCC) is off until next Saturday, when the Fighting Scots host the University of New England.
