Remillard & Strobel Earn CCC Weekly Honors After Leading Golden Bears to Sixth Title

CCC Release

Remillard named Offensive Player of the Week, Strobel collects Defensive Player of the Week honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 7, 2016) – Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) of the Western New England University men's soccer team have been recognized with weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) for their efforts last week in helping lead the Golden Bears to their sixth CCC title in program history.

Remillard and Strobel repeated as Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, following Western New England's wins at Endicott in the semifinal on Wednesday and Wentworth in the championship match on Saturday.

Remillard capped his dominant run through the CCC Tournament with two-goal efforts in both contests, giving him six through three CCC postseason matches. He scored both of Western New England's goals on Wednesday to help force the penalty kick shootout, before netting his PK attempt to give the Golden Bears a 4-3 edge in their eventual 5-3 victory. He followed that up by tallying two more goals in the title match at Wentworth, including the game-winner early in the second half.

Strobel posted a 1.35 goals against average over the two games to help the Golden Bears secure the conference title. He made six saves in the semifinal match with top-seeded Endicott, including several big stops in the second half, overtime, and in the penalty shootout. After surrendering a goal to second-seeded Wentworth just six minutes into the CCC Championship match, Strobel held the Leopards scoreless for the remaining 84 to help Western New England capture the conference crown.

Western New England (11-9-1), which earned its ninth NCAA Tournament bid in program history, will take on Brandeis in the first round on Saturday in Wellesley, Mass on the campus of Babson College.
