Wesleyan Outlasts Western New England in Overtime, 1-0

Junior forward Troy Remillard leads Golden Bears with four shots on goal

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (September 21, 2016) – The Wesleyan University men's soccer team scored 57 seconds into overtime to earn a 1-0 victory over Western New England University this afternoon in non-conference action at Jackson Field.  

Top Performers
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) led the Golden Bears with six shots, including four on goal.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) shut the Cardinals out through 90 minutes of action, making five saves, but Wesleyan's sixth shot on target proved to be the game-winner.

• Freshman forward Alec Haas (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) found the back of the net less than a minute into the extra session for the only goal of the contest.

Match Review
• Each team recorded eight shots, including four on goal, during an evenly played first half.
• Western New England was outshot 9-4 over the next 45 minutes, but Remillard had an opportunity to win the game for the Golden Bears late. His shot with just nine seconds remaining in regulation was saved by Wesleyan senior goalkeeper Jack Katkavich (Farmington, Conn.).
• Haas netted the game-winner at the 90:57 mark, firing a shot from the right of the penalty area to the left corner of the net past Strobel's outstretched arms.

Notes
• Western New England is now 4-6-2 against Wesleyan all-time.
• The Cardinals held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
• The Golden Bears are 0-2 in overtime contests this season.
