Junior Logan Pingree nets third goal in two days
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 11, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team fell victim to a second half rally by Clark University as the Cougars rallied for a 2-1, non-conference victory this afternoon at Suprenant Field.
Top Performers
• Junior midfielder Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.), who scored both of Western New England's goals in yesterday's 2-0 win over the University of New England, continued his offensive surge with another goal today.
• Freshman midfielder Mana Chavali (Brookline, Mass.) capped Clark's second half rally with his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute.
Match Review
• Pingree staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead just 8:43 into the contest when he came up with a loose ball right in front of the net following several deflections and buried a shot past Clark junior goalkeeper Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.).
• Western New England took its one-goal cushion into the break, but the Cougars equalized in the 48th minute when freshman Evan Jurkowski (Ludlow, Mass.) finished a cross from classmate Jonathan Guilherme (Oxford, Conn.).
• Chavali then scored what would prove to be the game-winner at the 67:48 mark, beating Western New England senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) at the right post.
Notes
• Strobel finished with eight saves, his second highest total of the season.
• The Golden Bears held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks and also outshot the Cougars by a 15-12 margin.
