CCC Release

Duo led Golden Bears to 2-0 week with 3-1 win over Roger Williams in CCC Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 31, 2016) – Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) and junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) of the Western New England University men's soccer team have both been recognized with weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced this afternoon.

Remillard was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week, and Strobel collected CCC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after the duo helped lead Western New England to a 2-0 week. The Golden Bears capped the regular season with a 2-0 win at Nichols on Wednesday, before opening the CCC Tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Roger Williams in the quarterfinal round.

Remillard fueled the Golden Bear offense with three goals, scoring one at Nichols before adding two more to his team-leading total against the Hawks on Saturday. Strobel registered a five-save shutout on Wednesday, and followed that up by stopping seven of the eight shots that he faced in the CCC quarterfinals on Saturday.

Fourth-seeded Western New England (10-9) will travel to Beverly, Mass. on Wednesday to take on top-seeded Endicott (12-5-2) with a berth in the CCC Tournament finals on the line.
